When you first sit down in the chair for an extraction, we will use local anesthesia to numb your tooth, jawbone and gums that surround the area. To remove the tooth, Dr. Wasselle will firmly rock the tooth in order to widen the socket. So you'll feel a lot of pressure, but you should not feel any pain as the anesthetic has numbed your nerves. It is important to let us know if you do feel pain at any time during the extraction.
Dental implants basically act as the root of your tooth. They are tiny titanium posts that are placed into your jawbone where teeth are missing. Your bone will bond with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. The entire process usually takes 6 to 8 months. It begins with the surgical placement of your implants. Over the next 3 to 6 months, they will bond with your jawbone. During this time, you should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet. When you come in for your second visit, Dr. Wasselle will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. We will make an impression and begin making your new teeth. Then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants and the replacement teeth are made over the posts.
How would you like to get rid of your dentures and experience what it feels like to have a mouth full of teeth again? That's what dental implants can do for you. They look, feel and function like natural teeth, restoring your ability to eat virtually anything. You will be able to smile with confidence knowing that the teeth appear natural. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing. Call us today and we will set up a consultation to see if dental implants are right for you!
